We're so pleased that so many of our family and friends from far away will be joining us. This page contains information that we hope will make planning your stay in Maine easier.
FLYING

East Livermore is in rural central Maine. Believe it or not, we do have our own airport, Bowman Field, but you have to have your own plane to fly to it and it has to be a small one.

The picture on the left is of our neighbor - Joe  Smith - and Cynthia's father Warren in August of 2007 getting ready to depart Bowman Field in Joe's plane to fly to the the Owl's Head Transportation Museum  on the coast.

More likely, you would choose to fly into Portland, Maine (PWM), about 1 1/2 hours south of us. Other "nearby" (we use the term loosely) airports include Manchester NH (about 3 hours - sometimes you can get really good prices to Manchester) or Boston (also about 3 hours)..
TRAIN & BUS

If you have the time, we think the train is a lot more fun that flying these days. Although the train does come into Portland, there is a wider choice of schedules into Boston and it's a cinch to switch to the Concord Trailways bus at South Station for the final two hours of the trip to Maine.

You can also take the Concord Trailways if you fly into Boston, as there is a connection directly to Logan Airport.

Greyhound Bus Lines will get you closer to us (Lewiston or Augusta) but we usually find Concord Trailways to be more convenient - plus they show you a movie en route! For years, this was the only way I traveled to Boston - so much so that my friends there thought I didn't own a car anymore (which reminds me - you will need a car - Augusta is as close as you can get on public transportation and it is half an hour away)
STAY WITH US

Guests who love the out of doors are invited to camp in our field. At least a couple of people have already indicated that they intend to do just that. You are welcome to bring a tent, RV or other camping unit. Be aware that there is not electrical power on the site but there will be bathroom facilities (not showers).

There is a space on the invitation reply to indicate if you wish to do this.
OTHER LODGING OPTIONS

We've arranged to use the Five Seasons Resort for the weekend. The resort is in Mount Vernon, about 20 minues from East Livermore, on 75 acres of woods on a lake and has a sandy beach. Guests will stay in a 14 bedroom house, built in the 1930s. Continental breakfast is included in the room rates. To reserve a room contact the owner, Pete Gerow by email or phone after 6:00 321-953-9469 (he prefers email). Do not use the contact info on their website - that is for summertime. There is a two-night minimum stay.

We've posted a map on the Map & Directions page.

If you prefer to make other arrangements, some other options are below.
MOTELS

Well - we've never had occasion to use any of these places before! But to save you some time we've poked around on the web and found a couple of motels closer than the Lewiston/Farmington/Augusta areas (where there are lots of choices, including major chains- we prefer to promote local resources anyway).

The Wilson Lake Inn is in Wilton: FULLY BOOKED - Sorry

The Lakeside Motel & Cabins is in East Winthrop, about twenty minutes from us, south toward Augusta on Route 202 (note that 202 is a large fairly busy - at least by our standards - road).
BED & BREAKFASTS

In Fayette, less than ten minutes from here, is the Home Nest Farm B&B. Paul has known the proprietors for many years. They prefer to book for a week at a time, but if you wait until after May 31 they will consider shorter stays.

In Wayne, just about ten  minutes south of us, is the Franklin House B&B, right on Main Street acorss the road from the lake. As of May 6 they had two rooms available - possibly three but she can't commit to the third just yet because her daughter might come up. I'll get more information on this one shortly. They do not have a website.

In Winthrop, about twenty minutes from us, is the Annabessacook Farm B&B and they have emailed on May 3 that so far all their rooms are available on our weekend. They have a minimum stay of two nights.

Also in Winthrop you can find the Maple Tree Inn B&B. They advertise one two-bedroom air conditioned suite (perfect for couples traveling together, they say) in a beautiful old farm house. We know nothing about them other than what we've read on their site.

In Monmouth, about twenty-five minutes from us, is the Rise and Shine B & B. It is apparently the former Woolworth estate. Similarly to the above, we have no firsthand knowledge of this establishment.

In Hallowell, just outside our state capital of Augusta and about 35 or 40 minutes from us is the Maple Hill Farm B&B. They are bicycle friendly and have interesting animals. Cynthia has stayed there once quite some time ago and has attended a number of events in their conference rooms more recently. It's a very nice place.
CAMPS

There are a number of people in the area who rent out camps (that is what people in Maine call small seasonal houses, usually on a lake or pond or sometimes simply in the remote woods). We are exploring these possibilities to see if there are any available for short-term rental - many rent only by the season or full week.

But if you want a real Maine wilderness camp experience, we can wholeheartedly recommend the Tea Pond Camps in Eustice. They are about an hour and a half north of us right up Route 27 from Farmington, and we stay there at least once a year. They will rent for as short as one night. Traditional old log camps, off the grid, beautiful setting, wildlife......

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE

East Livermore is actually an area on the south end of the town of Livermore Falls. The Jay-Livermore-Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce covers our area. They have lots of information about resources in the immediate area.

Franklin County is immediately to the north of us and is a beautiful county with pretty towns and many opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce offers a free area guide on their website.

Winthrop is the area to the southeast of us, just beyond Wayne. The Winthrop Area Chamber of Commerce offers an alphabetical listing of their many business and municipal members.

THINGS TO DO

Maine is a wonderful place for a vacation. There are many wonderful day trips from right in our area, whether you are interested in hiking, swimming, antiquing, scenic drives, museums, living history, eating......

To the north of us you have easy access to the Mount Blue and Rangeley Lake recreational areas, as well as the very nice small university town of Farmington.

And the coast offers additional opportunities (though more tourists, as well) including a National Park, whale watching, museums...

Right now we're focussed on getting the invitations out and getting lodging information on the site. Once the invitations are out, we'll post more information about great things to do in the area and Maine while you are here.
